I found a list of NYS CSA's here: http://www.biodynamics.com/csa2.html#NY
and it appears that the biggest/nearest to Rochester is in Newark, with others in Ithaca (no surprise!) Trumansburg (again!) and another in Albion. Best shot locally is here: http://www.gvocsa.org/ but I'll bet more info could be found by visiting and asking around at the Rochester Public Market.

CSA = Community supported agriculture. Typically, individuals buy "shares" from a local farmer or gardener and receive "output" from the shares throughout the growing season. Output may include fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, milk, meat, eggs, etc, depending upon the producer or CSA. Share owners either pick up their output or sometimes it's delivered. It's a basic model that is modified depending upon the producer, consumer, local products, etc. I ask because I am new to the Rochester area but would like to start utilizing a CSA.

Jennifer, for persons unfamiliar with this, can you elaborate on what a CSA is? And, if you have a list with enough info, we could set up a full page about them here, or at least set links to outside resources in the "blogroll".

Thanks!

How about providing a list of local CSAs? Does anyone have any comments or opinions about particular CSAs? Thanks.
